The “coolcation”—a trip centered around cooler climates and breezy destinations—is experiencing a fresh wave of popularity as more travelers look to beat the heat this summer. Vacationers are avoiding sweltering cities and sun-baked beaches (which can be crowded), and instead heading to higher elevations, coastal retreats, and forested getaways. Daytime temperatures will remain comfortable, but mornings and evenings might require a light jacket.
Most people associate coolcations only with exotic locations such as Iceland or the Swiss Alps. But that’s not the case. In fact, you can experience an epic coolcation right here in the United States—no passport required. These cool getaways, from lakefront hideaways and mountain towns to picturesque lakes, offer the same adventure as a summer vacation without the heat.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
